No price drop for Xbox 360

While Peter Moore showed off the upcoming Halo 3-themed Xbox console and accessories as well as all the awesome looking games coming out this year, the one thing he didn’t mention was the most speculated question of all: price drops.

That’s right. No price drop. No mention of Sony’s price drop. Hmmm.

Of course, my buddy Ross said it best when he IM’d me saying “Don’t need to after all of that” 😀

  1. Hey I just figured I’d comment back to you about this but the Xbox 360 price drop is not going to be anounced at E3 at all…. if you read the offical word from Microsofts Shane Kim he stated this about it:

“The Redmond, Washington-based company needs to lower Xbox’s $299 to $479 price to increase sales and lure customers who aren’t interested in traditional combat and racing video games, Shane Kim, vice president of Microsoft Game Studios, said in an interview. He declined to say when a price cut may be announced. It won’t happen at this week’s E3 games conference, he said.

“We need to compete effectively for that customer and part of that is getting to the mass market price point for the console,” said Kim. “We definitely are working on that area.” ”

Any ways if you want the official word of where i got this from its here: http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=18827

  2. “Don’t need to after all of that” – All of what? Did they show something cool that I didn’t see, because I have half a mind to return my system after this years E3?

  8. It appears that the price drop will happen in time for Christmas (i.e. later) so they are not announcing it yet.

To give up on a console because nothing new and electrifying happened at a trade show is like saying you are going to throw out your TV because the new season sucks. You already knew about the big ones like Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Assassins Creed, et al.

Why do people even care what is supposedly going to come out more than a year in the future? History shows more empty promises from E3 than anything. I’m rather happy we didn’t see as many potentially empty promises so far.

  9. @Raven: It sounds like Kim is referring to the Wii market. If that’s the case, they might hold a price drop until the Wii becomes readily available.

@James: I find it hard to believe you didn’t see anything “cool”. If that’s the case, then you weren’t looking.

@ReedtheFeed: I couldn’t have said it better myself. Everyone knew what to expect before the keynote even started. Because Microsoft’s announcements went as planned, many are now unhappy because there were no surprises.

  15. Well, that’s a shame. Oh well. I brought my Xbox 360 at a relatively good price with a bundle of games included to boot so it’s no real skin off my nose.

  20. who cares about the price drop… how bout just correcting the system failure problems. I am currently waiting on xbox 360 number three to be shipped to me from the repair center in Texas. I have been told that, “due to the increase of systems being sent in, the 2-3 day repair time has now been bumped up to 4-6 weeks.”

Don’t get me wrong, I love my 360, but after going through the repair process (2 times), I am slowly beginning to fall out of love. And the 1800-4-my-xbox rep’s don’t know jack! A group of drunken monkeys could run that place better.

  23. @ mrmalph: Wow! I figured that once the consoles started rolling in it would take a little longer to get them back, but a month and a half? Can’t blame you for being upset about that.

  24. MS is already looking at a huge bill owing to all the system failures …. Instead of a price drop they should rather have a recall, I don’t think a price drop is happening . I found a lot of bad blood against MS .

  27. I never expected to see any price drop with the 360… and I also think it is a good price in the UK at £279 for the premium.

I think it will be more interesting to see what Sony do with the PS3 pricing to attempt to draw in some of it’s fans that stayed away given its overpriced tag. At over £400 in the UK – makes it a no go area for most gamers at the mo.

  32. @mrmalph: The repair turn-around time should be 2-3 weeks, although Xbox service is anticipating some delays with the new warranty extension.

With the undisclosed changes they’ve made to new consoles addressing the 3rol error, there is hope that this issue will soon become a bad memory.
