Back to business…

I’d love to say that I’ve spent the last 7 months visiting the world’s most exotic vacation locations but, sadly, I have not.

Back in early May, I took a job with an international company and joined one of their local IT teams. Making the leap from a small, family owned business was not an easy task and the learning curve was huge. Not that I didn’t expect it to be, but when you come face to face with it, reality really starts to sink in.

I love my new job and, because of that, I really dove in deep, trying to learn as much as I could as quickly as I could in order to be a productive member of the team. This, of course, took time. Time that I had once devoted to being a part of the gaming community.

While I still have a long way to go, I’ve finally reached a point where I can get back online and do the things that I’ve enjoyed doing for so long. The wheels will be turning somewhat slowly at first, but no doubt, we will get it rolling again!

It’s been a long week…

Last week was insanely busy for me, the result of which was my falling quite a bit behind here at the blog. That being said, the next few posts will be my attempt to play a little catch-up on the relevant gaming news that took place while I was “gone”.

With the NBA playoffs right around the corner, 2K Sports released a sizeable roster update for NBA 2K8 which includes all player movements up through the trade deadline. More than 60 player swaps are updated in this free download including Shaquille O’Neal to the Phoenix Suns, Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers, Jason Kidd to the Dallas Mavericks, Mike Bibby to the Atlanta Hawks, Ben Wallace to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Shawn Marion to the Miami Heat.

Pre-game what?

Ok. Here in the rabid household, the chili is on the stove, the ribs are cooking along with the wings and I’m watching the pre-game show on Fox. At least, I thought I was watching pre-game…

Paula Abdul, Ryan Seacrest…WTF??

The world really is going to hell in a handbasket.

Go Pats

Guitar Hero Air Guitar Rocker

Here’s something that Guitar Hero fans may find of interest. Revealed at CES, the new Guitar Hero Air Guitar Rocker (from Jada Toys) aims to deliver the fun of Guitar Hero outside of the console environment.

Designed simply as a combination guitar pick, belt buckle, portable amp and an Air Cartridge that contains 10 guitar riffs ranging in skill level from 1-5. Players need only to strum across the belt buckle as they attempt to master each of the included air tunes. The device can also be attached to external speakers (if the portable amp just ‘aint loud ’nuff).

Included on the Air Cartridge are riffs from  Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man,” Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water,” Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades,” Van Halen’s “You Really Got Me”, Boston’s “More Than a Feeling,” and five original Air Guitar Rocker freestyle riffs. Jada also plans to release new belt buckles and Air Cartridges in the future.

The Guitar Hero Air Guitar Rocker is set to hit retail shelves in March and should be priced in the range of $29.99.

Futbol in a Football stadium

Totally off-topic post here, but I just had to share this one.

The family and I made the trek out to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro MA to see our first ever professional soccer game and I have to say that it was awesome! The New England Revolution played host to the Los Angeles Galaxy in front of 30,000 fans, most of which seemed to be there to see David Beckham. Unfortunately, due to his ongoing ankle injury, Beckham never took the field.

Regardless of that, the night was fantastic. It all started as two F-15 fighter jets screamed overhead in a perfectly timed fly-by near the end of the National Anthem. Seeing (and feeling) those two birds scorch by was an incredible rush.

The cap on the night was watching Taylor Twellman, early in the second half, make a beautiful move to beat out two defenders and score the game’s only goal right in front of us! The Revs held onto the lead from there and the stadium erupted when the final whistle blew.

The one thing that did surprise me though was the crowd’s reaction when Beckham, sitting amongst his teammates, was shown up on the scoreboard late in the game. The “boo’s” outweighed the applause significantly as the fans had no problem expressing their disappointment of coming specifically to see him only to have him on the bench for the entire game. New England fans can be a tough bunch but it still was a shame they reacted that way.
