Halo 3 hits $300 million in first week

Halo 3 appears to be a hit! Microsoft has just announced that sales figures for the game total in excess of $300 million in just the first week of release. Sales of Xbox 360 consoles have also benefited with Microsoft reporting the ‘box selling at more than twice the weekly average.Some other interesting statistics mentioned include:

* Halo 3 is the fastest selling video game ever and one of the most successful entertainment properties in history.
* More than 2.7 million gamers have played Halo 3 on Xbox LIVE in the first week, representing nearly one-third of the seven million Xbox LIVE members worldwide.
* Within the first day of its launch, Halo 3 players racked up more than 3.6 million hours of online game play, which jumped to more than 40 million hours by the end of the first week.
* Since Halo 3 launched, gamers have unlocked more than 30 million achievements.
* Xbox LIVE Gold memberships have increased by “hundreds of thousands” since the launch.

  2. I had figured early on that the game would sell well into the hundreds of millions in $$ although I will admit that I didn’t think it would hit a number like this as fast as it did.

    I’d really like to see some solid ‘units sold’ numbers as well as an exact figure on new LIVE subscribers.
