New accessories coming on Tuesday

Halo 3 fans take note: On Tuesday, September 4th, store shelves will be stocked (at least for a little while) with the new Todd McFarlane designed Xbox 360 Limited Edition Halo 3 Wireless Controllers (which includes a Limited Edition Halo 3 Master Chief figurine designed by McFarlane himself) as well as the Spartan green and gold Xbox 360 Limited Edition Halo 3 Wireless Headset. These new accessories are priced at $59.99 each and will be available for a limited time.

Also making its debut on Tuesday is the new Xbox 360 Messenger Kit which comes with the very cool Chatpad attachment and an Xbox 360 wired headset for $29.99. No longer will gamers have to struggle using the on-screen keyboard or wrestle around a USB keyboard in order to communicate with friends. The Chatpad is nicely designed with a back-lit “QWERTY” keypad and fits comfortably on existing Xbox 360 controllers.

  1. I’ve got the Messenger Kit and I reviewed it last week. It’s a pretty good piece of kit. If you’re a fast typer (typist?) like I am, then you might need to learn to slow down slightly because it sometimes misses out the odd character when you type too fast. Other than that it’s very handy if you use Windows Live Messenger (MSN) on your 360 or if you send a lot of text messages over Xbox Live.

The new headset has the volume and mic controls inline rather than near the controller – which is a bit crap because if you’re in the middle of a game, it can be hard to take one hand off of the controller and find the controls.

  3. @ Ross: Glad to hear you liked the Messenger Kit. I’m looking forward to picking this up myself.

@ origami: I’m not sure if there’s any difference between our consoles and yours besides the DVD region formats (NTSC – PAL). You might want to ask around in Ross’ forums to see if someone can confirm it.

  4. I believe all accessories work on all consoles – especially ones that just attach to a controller. I can’t think of any reason why Microsoft would have to region lock them, so I can’t imagine them being locked.
