Launch console finally went down

My Xbox 360 suffered some form of internal video failure Friday night and will now need to go in for repairs 😦

Mine was a launch console and considering the uncountable hours that I’ve logged onto that machine, I’m surprised that it took this long for something like this to happen.

  1. Not too far off my first 360 failing. Granted it wasn’t a launch one, but it was very close to being one (got it about 5 weeks after launch because the store I had my pre-order with absolutely sucks…) – and mine failed about 3 weeks ago.

So, Wayne, that means your console lasted about a month longer than mine. 😛

And I agree – with the problems the 360 has had, it’s surprising that some consoles can last this long before giving in…

  2. Isn’t it funny how we justify these failures by grading our console on a curve of “how long it lasted versus how long so many other launch-era consoles lasted”?

The nice part is, the 360 I get back will have a new 1-year warranty which gives me at least a little piece of mind.

  3. I had a launch console, first month of release, it lasted for so many years that I didn’t believe in the “red ring of death”… oh how wrong I was. At least it lasted as long as it did, and at least Microsoft takes care of it at no charge for me.

Good luck getting it back in time to play some Halo!

  4. Thanks, bro. I’m already well into withdrawal symptoms. If I miss out on the launch of Halo 3….grrr.

  5. It’s mad really, to buy something and to expect it to have some sort of failure one day… on the basis of the smarter things get the more parts there are to fail.

And considering my original day one 1st Gen Black Xbox still works & is still going strong albeit now used by my girlfriends younger sister.
