Microsoft extends warranty to cover “3 Red Lights of Death”

Word was just released from Microsoft that, due to the “unacceptable number of repairs to Xbox 360 consoles”, the Global Warranty for Xbox 360 consoles has been extended to 3 years from the original date of purchase. Additionally, anyone who has already paid for a repair related to the three red light error will be retroactively reimbursed.

This change in coverage comes at a cost however. According to the press release “Microsoft will take a $1.05 billion to $1.15 billion pre-tax charge to earnings for the quarter ended June 30, 2007 for anticipated costs under its current and enhanced Xbox 360 policies.”

While many may feel that this change in policy has come a bit too late, Microsoft still deserves credit for standing behind its console and putting customer satisfaction ahead of profits.

Any thoughts??

Bethesda gets blogging

I meant to post this earlier in the week, but an apparent brain-schiz on my part got in the way.

Anyway, Pete Hines and his team over at Bethesda Softworks have launched their own community blog designed to give gamers an insider’s look at what’s happening within the company and to focus on the community-related information surrounding their games. I’ve visited the blog several times and I’m impressed with the amount of material they’ve already posted considering the site just went live last week. Check it out at : http://bethblog.com/.
